Nemaco offers a wide range of industrial NEMA 4X enclosures available for many industrial applications that include housing electrical components in all weather conditions of direct sunshine in the hot dry desert, dust / sand storms, winter snow, frozen ice formation, and heavy rainfall from hurricanes. We manufacture NEMA 250 Type 4X electrical enclosures per the National Electrical Manufacturer Association standards aka as the NEMA standards in order to ensure top level quality control for our customers. Typically, many NEMA 4X enclosures are manufactured from grades of stainless since the NEMA 4X required corrosion in order to provide corrosion resistance, stainless steel is more commonly used to fabricate these cabinets in industrial application. Sometimes fiberglass (FRP) or plastic materials might be used in small enclosures, junction boxes, or pull boxes for NEMA 4X. However, plastic might not be as strong as metal in extreme environments, therefore aluminum and powder coated steel are also offered as options. As a general rule, most industrial customers prefer stainless steel since the materials are corrosion resistant and rugged. We also manufacture stainless steel enclosures in many designs. The NEMA 250 Type 4X enclosures are sometimes considered as weatherproof boxes for washdown or rainproof applications.

NEMA 4X ENCLOSURE DEFINITION

Definition: NEMA 4X rating enclosures are designed to protect from solid objects such as falling dirt, airborne dust particles, and windblown dust. In Addition, NEMA 4X must provide protection against ingress of direct hose directed water in any direction. Per NEMA 250, Type 4X boxes must be corrosion resistant.

QUALITY CONTROL TESTING

Nemaco’s Type 4X products have been designed and tested to meet the NEMA standards and selected enclosure product categories have been approved by UL.

The Type 4X rating per UL 50, 50E & NEMA 250 standards requires that equipment in the enclosure must be protected from withstand no ingress of heavy water spray in any direction. Also, prototype sample enclosures must endure and pass corrosion resistance testing. Call Nemaco for more information about our quality test procedures for standard products and UL approval products.

ENCLOSURE MATERIALS & COATING

Stainless Steel (304 / 316L)

Nemaco’s Type 4X products are designed and fabricated with the following corrosion resistance metals: stainless steel and powder-coated aluminum. Both stainless steel and aluminum materials have ideal physical characteristics and advantages. Stainless steel has overall strength, durability and the premium grades of stainless steel (304 / 316L) offer superior levels of corrosion resistance against salt, acids, and other chemicals. In particular, the grade 316L stainless steel has more chrome molecules in the chemical composition and therefore it can provide more corrosion-resistant protection. Most engineers prefer to specify stainless steel for many electrical projects that require superior corrosion resistance.

Both ferrous (stainless steel) and non-ferrous (aluminum) metals have distinct advantages and unique physical qualities that are ideal for many applications. Call Nemaco if you have any questions about materials and applications.

Aluminum (5052 / 6061)

Nemaco offers Type 4X products in aluminum grades (5052/6061) to better serve customers that request lightweight enclosures and cabinets that have mild corrosion resistance. Most of the enclosures and cabinets are powder coated for better wear and corrosion resistance to marine environments or salt spray. Of course, the powder-coated enclosures look great! Many engineers, designers, and other techie guys like to specify powder-coated cabinets for electrical control systems and other applications.

Nemaco offers both stainless steel and powder-coated aluminum as solutions. Some customers prefer powder-coated aluminum instead of stainless steel. Aluminum has a much lower weight and therefore is much easier to transport to field locations and install by work crews. Also, aluminum has great heat transfer properties. Also, please note that it is easy to powder coat aluminum metal surfaces. And of course, powder-coated bonds (adheres) to aluminum easily.

Quick Materials Comparison

Both ferrous (stainless steel) and non-ferrous (aluminum) metals have distinct advantages and unique physical qualities that are ideal for many applications. Call Nemaco if you have any questions.

  • Stainless Steel (Material Grades 304/316) – Strong, Durable, Corrosion Resistant
  • Powder Coated Aluminum (5052, 6061) – Low Weight, Mild Corrosion Resistant

Nemaco manufactures electrical enclosures from top-grade materials (stainless steel, & aluminum (5052 /6061) alloys and we can customize enclosures according to a customer’s specifications. TECHNICAL SUMMARY

These NEMA 250 type 4x rating enclosures require to be corrosion resistant, heavy water spray down resistant, and dust resistant. The enclosures can be used for both indoor and outdoor environments, considered as weatherproof enclosures and cabinets.

Nemaco offers the enclosures in (304 / 316L) stainless steel and powder-coated aluminum. Call us for powder coated aluminum and chemically passivated stainless steel enclosure solutions for your projects.

  • Outdoor protection from directed hose water, rain, ice formation, foreign substances, and windblown dust (airborne circulating dust and settling particles).
  • Indoor protection from falling dirt and dripping water from pipes.
  • Provides protection for electrical equipment from incidental contact.
  • Additional protection is corrosion.
